The New Adventures of Old Christine is a comedy about a 35-year-old divorced mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Seinfeld), who runs a 30-minute female-only gym with Barbara 'Barb'(Wanda Sykes), and tries to keep peace with everyone around her. That includes the judgmental stay-at-home moms at her son Richie's (Trevor Gagnon) private school, her ex-husband, Richard (Clark Gregg, The West Wing), and his new girlfriend (Emily Rutherfurd, The Ellen Show), whose name is also Christine, Old Christine's brother, Matthew (Hamish Linklater, Fantastic Four) lives with her. While attempting to teach some street smarts to Ritchie's class, Christine's suggestion of the school taking the students on a field trip ends in disaster when she ends up stranded at the station as the train leaves without her.
When the gym suddenly begins to become profitable, Christine and Barb find themselves coming into a lot of money. Barb decides to give to charity, and Christine must make the tough decision between splurging on a designer dress or following Barb's lead.
Christine asks Richard to have a baby with her after becoming envious of Richard and New Christine's happiness in planning for theirs.
Right before Mr. Harris comes back into her life, Christine finds herself in love with Max.
Christine tells Max that she's in love with him, but his reaction is not quite what she is expecting. Richard prods Matthew to pursue a cute girl's advances.
While reluctantly attending her neighbor's block party, Christine uncovers a juicy secret.
Christine notices that Ritchie has been bullying other kids, and she decides to show a good example by apologizing to the woman she used to bully.
Christine convinces Lindsay that being single is the key to happiness, which prompts her to leave her husband and move in with Christine.
Christine has set up a date between Richard and a gorgeous, passionate woman who works out at her gym, while Tom (Richard's friend) continues trying to woo Chrisine.
Christine's therapist, Max (Eric McCormack), tries to get her to not give up so easily when circumstances turn difficult and attempts to teach her how to follow through with commitments.
